When you read this we’ll be out of National Lockdown for a second time, but bound by Tier 2 restrictions right up to Christmas week.

This year has been a life-changing test of all our spirits and resolve, but winter has finally brought hope with the positive news on vaccines.

Whatever we think of the government’s handling of the crisis, I think Boris’ phrase ‘Tis the season to be jolly careful’ pretty much sums up how we should approach Christmas.

Though there will be five days of relaxation and an opportunity to meet up with two other households, we’ll all need to be cautious and sensible as we need the release of the Christmas holidays more than ever but we could be just months away from the greater freedom that beating the pandemic will offer us.

I hope that everyone makes the most of what remains a restricted festive season and can support the local businesses, including our local pub, that have suffered throughout the last 9 months.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone and stay safe though this winter. Let’s hope that 2021 brings a gradual return to normality and perhaps even a better, greener and more caring life in our Parish.
