Can You Help Save The Show?

E-mail Print
Great Haseley and District Horticultural Society grew out of the “Dig for Victory” campaign during the Second World War.

The main event in the Society’s year has always been the Annual Produce Show traditionally held on the Saturday of the August Bank Holiday weekend in venues around the local villages.  Many of you will have attended the show, but for newcomers to the area it is a friendly event crossing a country fete with a produce show held in a marquee. There are traditional competitive classes for the serious gardeners and bakers and many classes for those who would just like to have a go.  We also have a large number of classes for children encouraging them to grow, bake and make things.

This year should be the 70th Show.  Like many village events we are reliant on and hugely grateful to our team of volunteers for helping us organise and run the show.  However, the ranks of volunteers are thinning and not being replaced by younger people and, in addition, this year a number of Committee members are taking a well-earned retirement.  Thus, the remaining Committee have sadly taken the decision that unless we get more volunteers, and in particular new committee members, we will be unable to stage the show this year.

We are therefore appealing to the local community in the hope that we can preserve this tradition of village life and that the 70th show can go ahead.
