Do You Want to Comment on the Local Plan?

Seven pivotal points you could put to the Inspector:

1 The Local Plan includes a very different strategy for growth compared to the 2017 version. The Council should have carried out a further public consultation allowing the public an opportunity to influence the plan’s proposals before the final submission version of the plan is put forward.

2 Significantly, all the proposed urban Oxford City green belt sites which are in this plan were not in the 2017 version.

3 The housing numbers are 25% higher than in the previous version of the plan.

4 The council’s evidence shows that sufficient houses are proposed or have already been allocated to meet Oxford’s unmet need so there is no justification for further loss of the green belt.

5 The overall number of around 30,000 homes is significantly in excess of the 17,000 which South Oxfordshire needs. It is also many more than the 21,750 homes required so that the growth deal can be met.

6 The Grenoble Road, Bayswater and Elsfield developments would all constitute urban sprawl.

7 Protecting the green belt is enshrined in national policy. The Oxford Green Belt is there to protect the setting of the city of Oxford as a nationally important historic environment and international tourist destination.  There is no justification for allowing urban sprawl to spoil this special city.

You can comment on the plan at SODC's website by 15th February.
