From the Parish Council Chairman - September 2025

I hope you’ve all had a good summer.

I think we’ve had four heatwaves, which has been a little different and very worrying for our farmers. I know this will be bad for many of the crop yields and I wish them the best of luck.

For myself, I’ve had little time off this summer, but when I did return from a long weekend in Gibraltar for my father-in-law’s 80th birthday I literally thought the plane had done a 3-hour loop, as it was so hot when we arrived back in the UK.

The Parish Council has been busy communicating throughout the summer as there are always things to discuss, although we don’t have a meeting in August. September’s PC Meeting will be important as we have our new Parish Clerk starting, Joanne Garvey. We’re very excited to have Jo on board and hope that the whole Parish will join me in welcoming her. She lives locally and has excellent IT skills to drive us into the 21st Century.

We’ve also been greatly helped over the last few months by our Locum Clerk, Allison Leigh, who has kindly agreed to provide crossover with Jo, so that we can have some kind of transition. I can’t thank Allison enough for the job she has done in getting us through our audit, revamping our governance and generally making sure that Jo has a chance of taking over a Parish Council that is hitting most of the modern regulations.

You’ll see in this Newsletter that there’s a ‘Take it Home’ campaign to encourage us to recycle more and I think the key is that if you put recyclables like cans and paper in a public bin then it’s likely to go to landfill. If you take it home then you can be fairly sure that it will be recycled, as it won’t be mixed with the likes of poop bags and other non-recyclables.

The PC has been intending to send a Councillor on site to see just how all our rubbish is processed, but this was scuppered by the covid pandemic. We will do this soon and then give you a full report on how all our waste is disposed of and how we can be most effective in looking after our environment. None of us want to think we’ve recycled and discover that small mistakes mean whole lorry-loads of waste go to landfill instead.

We look forward to continuing to serve the Parish and, along with the usual business, we have already begun planning Bonfire Night in November with help from the team at the Bat & Ball.

Please keep contacting us on the PC email address with any queries -

As always, everyone is welcome at our next meeting on 2nd September at 7.30pm in the Village Hall.

Best wishes,
