Happy New Year! I hope you had a lovely Christmas and New Year.
I expect it all feels a long time ago now, but I wonder if you can cast your mind back and recall your highlights of the season? I particularly enjoyed the traditional Carol Service, with the Oxford Intermezzo Choir, in Cuddesdon; and all the services around the Benefice on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. It was also lovely to host an exhibition of Robert’s prints of the Nativity and Infancy of Christ. Many of us enjoyed a very interesting talk, and a glass of wine, at the launch evening.
As I write this, the season of Epiphany is drawing to a close. Next Sunday (28th January), at All Saints’, we will celebrate the Feast of Candlemas, or The Presentation in the Temple. During this service, we turn away from the Crib and Christmas, and turn towards Lent and the Cross.
During Lent, the Diocese of Oxford is inviting people to ‘Come and See’ – to explore the Christian faith afresh. We invite you to come along and see what is happening at All Saints’ Church. All are welcome to any of our services and events.
You might also want to sign up for the Diocese of Oxford’s daily emails throughout Lent, and weekly videos – sign up at www.oxford.anglican.org/come-and-see This year, the theme is “The Way of Love,” and we will be exploring what it means to be loved by God, to love God, and to love our neighbours as ourselves.
In our own Benefice, here in Cuddesdon, the church is organising a series of Lent Breakfasts, on Saturday mornings in the Village Hall. Please do join us, as we take the opportunity to eat together, and to think about what Lent and Holy Week mean to us as individuals and as a church. Please do Come and See – and invite a friend or neighbour, too.
I hope to see you in All Saints’, or out and about in the village, soon.
God bless
Revd Karen x
