From the Parish Council Chairman - December 2024

It’s nearly Christmas and I have so many people to thank for helping us get to the ‘season of good will’ largely unscathed.

While we brace ourselves for the many expectations of Yuletide, a warm heart is free and I hope that everyone in this parish enjoys the holiday season.

First up I’d like to thank our Vicar Karen for organising our Services of Remembrance throughout her three Parishes and to Bishop Humphrey for leading our Act of Remembrance on Cuddesdon Green. With so many conflicts ongoing, Humphrey delivered an especially poignant message before we honoured the fallen from the village and the College. We will remember them.

A week earlier was Bonfire Night and I hope all those who came enjoyed the night. I have an army of people to thank for making it possible and apologies to any pets that had a rough evening, though my fellow councillor Philip says the fireworks display itself was only 10 minutes long, so I hope not too much angst.

A massive thank you to everyone including – Salt, Graham, Brownie, Tash, Jez, Izzie, Wills, Louisa, Therese, Philip, Stuart, Caroline, Linda, Richard, Dee, Mobbs, Cricks and Fantastic Fireworks. Lastly I want to thank Ben and the Bat & Ball for supplying beer and the Friends of All Saints for the wine. Village events are very special and they are not possible without all this effort from amazing people. You are all absolute legends!!

I wish the Bat & Ball massive luck for the winter season. It means a lot to all of us to see it re-opening. And thank you to David Keene for agreeing to organise the village Christmas tree again. We’ll be singing carols around it at 5pm on Sunday 22nd December and there’s a Carol Concert in the church straight afterwards at 6pm. Perfect combo.

Finally, I was asked what ‘Ohana’ meant recently and it’s a fair question since I only ever explained this leftfield ‘sign-off’ once and that’s a few years ago.

It’s from a children’s cartoon called Lilo and Stitch: “Ohana means family and family means no one gets left behind”.

Happy Christmas all.

Ohana,

Chris
